Ernie and Vernetta Ovitz, Kris's Parents
Ernest Gayhart Ovitz, Ernie, was a metallurgical engineer working in the manufacturing of aluminum all his life. He died in 1988 shortly after this picture was made on their 48th anniversary. Vernetta Hughes was a life long educator and in the years before she retired, she specialized in challenging gifted and talented students. Ernie and Vernetta started out in a boarding house in Rosiclare, Illinois and then a mining shack in the mountains of Colorado. Then came Arkansas, Texas, Guiana, Washington, Canada, Iran, and Florida. Florida was just a home base for several years in Africa. After Ernie's death in Florida, Vernetta moved back to God's Country, Texas. She died December17, 2000.
